Violet High

Warming Trend, 2002 by Helen Frankenthaler

Put men in pink to shame
Because pink is the color of femininity
Like it is less than masculinity

Put women in violet to shame
Because violet is the color of widows
Like they’re less without men

Not my mother
She put violet on her
Like an honor
Proving feminine is power

Barks on her,
“Oh, how will she survive raising two kids without a husband? She should find another man.”
She stood high in violet and say,
“I’ve had enough making a cup of tea every morning for a properly functioning man.”

Barks on her,
“Oh, how will she enroll her daughter to a graduate school if she works by herself in the house?”
She stood high in violet and say,
“Look at my daughter now. She just got a master’s degree and became a lecturer.”

Barks on her,
“Oh, you came the rich man’s house asking for some money to support your kids!”
She came for the sake of visiting a close relative and say,
“Goodbye.”
And never would she come back again

Single mothers ARE the strongest people on earth

Maybe being strong means
You wash your cheeks with tears in your night prayers

Maybe being strong means
You let go of your favorite golds for your kids

Maybe being strong means
You’re like carrying the whole world by yourself

Barking dogs don’t bite
Just stand high in violet
